Reef Check Headquarters is located on the beach in Pacific Palisades, California. The responsibility for Reef Check is divided among several National and Regional Coordination Centers. If you are located in the vicinity of our National or Regional Coordinators, please contact them regarding training, fundraising, site selection and other details. Reef Check Champion- Bruce Raymond Bruce Raymond with RC's Gregor Hodgson In this issue we feature Bruce Raymond, President of Quiksilver International . Bruce was a professional Top 16 surfer who after helping pioneer the International Professional Surfing (IPS) joined Quiksilver as a sponsored athlete in 1975. He managed the promotions and advertising at Quiksilver Inc from 1978 – 1980 before returning to Australia as the CEO of Quiksilver Garments in 1981. In this capacity Bruce managed the Quiksilver Trade Marks, Copyright, Licensing structure worldwide and the International Promotional Fund. In 2003 he became the President of Quiksilver International and continues to be the driving force behind many Quiksilver initiatives, including Athlete management, Global projects and Events. Pacific Magazine: FIJI: Fishing Dispute Leads to Killing

Pacific Magazine Tuesday: March 15, 2005   Tension is high between two groups on the island of Taveuni after a village headman was allegedly bashed to death in a dispute. Samuela Matana, 30, the headman of Waitabu Village on Taveuni was allegedly punched several times inside a home at the nearby Vurevure Settlement. The incident occurred after men from Vurevure and others were caught fishing in a marine park belonging to Waitabu village. Fishing in the marine park is strictly prohibited and the matter has been reported to police several times. A Waitabu villager, who did not wish to be named, said Vurevure settlers became angry after the matter was reported to police. Following the death of Mantana, tension escalated between the Vurevure settlers and villagers forcing police to step in an try to calm the situation..
